In our real life, there are certainly a lot of things that are related to our history class. For example, we learnt about how first civilizations all have rivers somewhere around. They need water to develop their agriculture. In fact, the big cities are still around the water sources now as well. One reason is because they start their culture relatively early, another main reason is because it’s very convient for city witch nears a river to tread to far places, and it doesn’t cost so many money.
Many things in this year’s history class relate to real life. For example, my “Silk Road” is the driveway that leads up to my house. It connects with my grandparents’ driveway. It led to an exchange of culture and life experiences between my generation, my parents’ generation, and my grandparents’ generation (World War II generation). My grandmother is of Italian ancestry, and used my “Silk Road” to exchange goods in the form of food for my brothers and me. As a result, my driveway acts as a “Silk Road”, allowing for informational exchange of sorts.
Very clever Ben.
There are a lot of things in our real life that are related to this year’s history class. Since the beginning of this year, I have noticed that everything on the Earth relates to each other. In other words, all the civilizations and cultures affect each other. For example, the ancient civilizations and most of the countries that exist now share some similarities, such as writing systems, technologies, geographical settings, etc. They are several examples of beneficial developments that had affected ancient civilizations. Besides, they are considered as fundamental parts of countries in these days since the records from the early civilizations contain a lot of information from the past, such as the rules they used to have, the plans that they had used in order to offend and defend themselves from their enemies, how they used to make tools for farming, how they used to commend gods, how they had invented writing systems, how they had developed their civilizations, etc. As a result, the records from the ancient civilizations give us an idea about how important it is for a civilization to leave its legacy for the next generations to let them know what had happened in the past because the records certainly affect next generations.
I agree. The environment can help or hinder any early civilization. With the right conditions, the city can become more advanced.
How did the environment affect religion?
Ben, what did your parents’ generation exchange with the grandparents’ generation? Was it modern technology?
The rivers are also an easy access point for trade. The water can also lead to other large civilizations.
I think that all the comments so far have been insightful and direct.
One of the things that I noticed on Halloween was how it was related to the Silk Road. First off, while kids and people are going around trick or treating, they are spreading their ideas and culture. In this case it would be the costumes that people have and the candy they get from people’s houses. Those trick or treating can see the different kind of costumes people have and the different candy given out. One personal experience I had was there was this one house that was giving out giant pixie sticks full of sugar. I would tell people about this and they would go to the house and get their own pixie sticks. This is an example of spreading trade and culture. Another example is after everyone is done trick or treating and they all go inside and start to trade their candy. For some people a kit-kat could be worth three butterfingers. Those who have a lot of kit-kats had more sway over those who had less. This is related to the salt-gold trade because some candies were more valuable than others and were traded for more things such as the salt and gold.
In history class this year, I have learned many new concepts and events. One concept in particular I feel is very important is the effect of environment on a civilization. In Africa, the environment and geography helped shape major events and developments. Developments occured due to natural resources and landscape. This concept has shaped my views of my lifestyle. I am now more appreciative of the environment around me. I see how the natural resources of oil, water and trees are so useful to our world today and help try to conserve more energy and help the environment as much as I can.
